OnLive, the streaming game service launched in June 2010, has finally expanded beyond the PC, Mac and televisions. The company has announced that its OnLive app for Apple's iPad and Android devices will launch later today, allowing gamers in the US and UK to stream and play most of the games in the OnLive nearly 200 game library via WiFi or via LTE-based wireless networks.
Of those 200 games, over 25 titles have been adapted so OnLive app players can interact with them via the touch screen of their mobile device, including L.A. Noire, Defense Grid Gold and Lego Batman. Indeed, the full versions of Lego Batman will be included as a free title when players download the OnLive tablet and smartphone app.
The other games in the OnLive library can still be played via the new app but it will require the use of the services of the upcoming Universal OnLive Wireless Controller. That controller will go on sale "soon". OnLive gamers who have already purchased full games will still be able to play those titles on the new app version, including access to their save game files. There is also multiplayer cross platform support, allowing tablet and smartphone gamers to play with their PC, Mac and TV counterparts.
