Sky has today announced that its Sky Anytime+ internet-based video on-demand service is to extend beyond just Sky Broadband customers this year.
In late 2010, Sky rolled out Anytime+ to millions of Sky+ HD homes, offering on-demand access to content from Sky channels and third-party networks.
Sky subscribers needed to connect their Sky+ HD set-top boxes to the internet to access the on-demand platform, which complemented the Sky Anytime 'push' VOD service over satellite.
However, Sky opted to make the service exclusive to Sky Broadband customers, which it claimed at the time was down to the need to control the technical ecosystem around the service.
