Is anyone looking forward to this?

I like MMORPG's and absolutely love the Elder Scrolls series, so if this is done right I might be playing it for a very, very long time.

If any game is to take over WoW, it will be this one.

I don't play games on PC anymore, current machine wouldn't cope with them. Never really been a fan of this type of game, they do look good tough.

I don't like how they ignored the gameplay mechanics of the later installments of the Elder Scroll series, like freeform combat, and ditched them for creating yet another WoW clone. Which is a shame, really, as they could have made an MMO which doesn't strip down gameplay mechanics in order to adjust to social interaction and whatnot. That's the weakness of MMOs in my opinion: in order to adjust to the massive server loads, they create a bare-bones gameplay experience. Which is a shame, this could have been the greatest MMO of all time.

This is true. I do think the world will be truly something else though. I hope it's insanely expansive.

From what I've heard, the game will take place in Cyrodil. So think about it being more-or-less the size of Morrowind. Maybe a bit bigger.

Oblivion was my favourite game in the series, so this is great news for me. I loved Cyrodil.

I'm curious about it and interested in playing it.

However, I'm not going to be like many and jump the gun over it and claim it to be a "WOW" killer. Remember how games like Age of Conan turned out when it got hit with that mantle?

It will definitely be extremely hard for any game to "kill" WoW. But I think this one has the most potential. We'll see.

Considering how outdated WoW is by today's standards, and how Bethesda is actually a developer with a good track record, I do think they have a good chance of making a "WoW Killer". My problem is the fact that it's basically a WoW killer that is wayyyyy too similar to WoW itself to take it seriously as a new game.

I see what you are saying. If the majority of people think that it is far too similar to WoW, they are just going to stick with WoW, because they're already there in the first place. And let's be honest, WoW does everything basically almost perfectly.

I'd disagree with that. The thing with WoW is that it's more of a social experience than a true gaming one. It's the failing of every MMO: Gameplay must be sacrificed in order to minimize server load. In the end, WoW is a solid game (although one which antisocial old me does not enjoy), but it's definitely far from perfect. It's also seven years old. Quite frankly I expect people to flock to Guild Wars 2, which, again, not to my liking, but brings new things to the table and doesn't have a subscription fee (one of the greatest turn-offs from WoW).

Hmm, I can't argue that some things are sacrificed for server load, because that is true. I just could not pick out many flaws in the game myself, personally, and I felt they did an amazing job with it. Then again, I was young, it was my first MMORPG, so it would have been easy for me to look past all the problems.

I'm just not too fond of MMORPGs. I mean, a game of inferior quality is made so it accomodates to playing with a bunch of people at the same time who are not enjoying the game together with me. I prefer multiplayer experiences to have a smaller scope so they don't have to sacrifice anything to server load. Take and FPS for example: servers accomodate to about 32 people or so, they are split into teams, and they ALL interact with one another. I think it's a much better setup.

First off, it's not being made by Bethesda Game Studios, the people who made all the normal TES games. It's being made by a new division of Zenimax who are the parent company of Bethesda.

That doesn't mean it will be bad, but it isn't a good sign. From what I've seen it doesn't look like a TES game and with it being an MMO it certainly won't have the same kind of immersion as one.

Then they'll be looking for the game to sell off the name alone.

Well that certainly changes the way I look at it. I hope they don't try to change the key elements that made the games so great too much...

I personally think it is going to be very similar to World of Warcraft in the gameplay aspect. Graphic wise - that could change over a period of time.

Yeah, what Omar said is going to shift a great deal of opinions (assuming they know).

But that's the thing, they aren't quick to jump out and say this new parent company are the ones doing the game. They want everyone to believe the original Elder Scroll creators are doing it for as long as they can to keep the hype train flowing.

They're doing a damn good job of that considering most people I know have no idea.
