If you have a Microsoft 365 subscription that is ending soon, you might get a new full-screen ad in future Windows 11 updates. Today, Microsoft released a new Windows 11 preview build that contains a new screen for the so-called SCOOBE or "Second-chance out-of-box experience." Its purpose is simple: nag you to renew your Microsoft 365 subscription.
Second-chance out-of-box experience is a full-screen UI that appears when you start your computer, and it does not get you to the desktop until you either reject or accept all of Microsoft's upsells, such as OneDrive backup, for example. Even though Microsoft decided to simplify the SCOOBE with a single-screen UI, it is still a full-screen prompt that needs your attention. Now, there is a new one for those whose Microsoft 365 subscriptions "need attention."
Here is what Microsoft says in the release notes for the latest Windows 11 Dev and Beta builds:
It is worth noting that Microsoft could change things from insider builds before shipping them to the general public. Therefore, there is no guarantee that the new Microsoft 365 prompt will make its way to all users. If you do not want to deal with stuff like this, you can always disable Second-chance out-of-box experience in Settings > System > Notification > Additional Notifications. Also, Microsoft wants to hear your feedback about these changes, so be sure to send it using the Feedback Hub app.
